Event description: Details from a non-ferrous metal, emitting elevated radiation, were discovered, during delivery of scrap metal in scrap depot “Novi Iskar”, Izgrev district. The NRA emergency centre was notified that on 4th June 2011 the portal monitoring system of scrap depot “Novi Iskar”, Izgrev district registered elevated radiation level during delivery of scrap by a citizen. The Capital administration “Fire Safety and Civil Protection” (CA-FSCP) – MI was notified immediately and it sent immediately a team to the place. The measured dose rate, in contact, was up to 1.54 µSv/h in contact, up to 0.78 µSv/h at 10 cm and up to 0.05 µSv/h. The latter value coincides with the level of the natural background in this area. The discovered details (about 50 pcs) represented copper bolts. The details were packed and stored for temporary safe storage.
